During the last decade, hundreds of new learning systems entered the market. It seemed like everyone simultaneously had the same idea – an LMS should focus on learners and the process of learning.
Certainly, many LMSs position themselves as "good for anything you need," but the majority have trended intentionally or accidentally towards being "really good at something specific."
For training content providers, this approach is logistically far superior to sending a file to customers who must load it on their LMS and then update it on an ongoing basis.
Most associations are naturally positioned to succeed with reinvented member education programs because they're already widely known and respected in their industry.
Going forward, it's unlikely that LXP/LEP platforms will displace full-fledged learning systems; there's no incentive for LXP/LEP vendors to add complex compliance and extended enterprise functionality to their solutions.
Now that volume-based SaaS licensing has energized the extended enterprise LMS market, employee training solutions are following suit.
